You can apply for Youth Homelessness Support if:

  • You are homeless (nowhere to live)
  • You are at risk of being homeless (no money for rent)
  • You are aged between 16 and 25 years old
  • You are aged between 16 and 25 and are a young parent or parents with babies or children

What sort of help can you expect from the South Port Community Housing Group's Youth Homelessness support?

South Port Workers are fully qualified to help you with many everyday issues you may have to face.

Things like:

  • Finding somewhere safe and secure for you to live
  • Helping you get a job
  • Help with Centrelink requirements
  • Show you how to plan ahead with school, training or work
  • Help you to sort out any personal, family or even legal problems you may have
  • If you are young parents or a young single parent, South Port can give you advice and access to support people and places who can also help you

What sort of housing options can you expect from South Port Community Housing Group Inc.?

  • Transitional Housing - this is usually a one or two bedroom flat or unit provided through Homeground in St. Kilda. It will be located in South Melbourne or Port Melbourne and sometimes in St. Kilda.

  • Bed-Sit Units - these units are part of the South Port Community Housing Group's program.

If either one of these options are not available or not suitable, South Port can help you with finding other accommodation.

South Port Workers know their stuff and they're good at it.  They can help you with information about other support agencies like:

  • Crisis and emergency accommodation
  • Domestic Violence Services
  • Drug and Alcohol
  • Food Vouchers
  • Free Meals
  • Free Recreation Programs
  • Mental Health issues
  • Op Shops

The Statewide Phone Service will automatically direct people seeking housing and homelessness assistance to their nearest entry point during business hours, and to an after-hours response outside of business hours (at night and on weekends).

Where to Get Help for Youth Housing Programs Melbourne

It's difficult enough being homeless let alone trying to find someone or an organisation to help you find somewhere to live.

The South Port Community Housing Group Inc has a Youth Housing Program especially for people aged between 15 and 25 years old who are homeless or having problems with finding secure and safe housing.

Are you having difficulty finding somewhere to live?

South Port Community Housing Group (SPCHG) helps people on low incomes and youth find affordable housing in Melbourne's inner south.

We also help you to connect with your local community and find the services you may need.
SPCHG provides good quality, secure, long-term accommodation for

•  People on government pensions, benefits and allowances

•  Sick or disabled people, including those with limited mobility

•  Young people, between 15-25 years old including single parents, who are homeless or insecurely housed.

We provide two programs for singles, youth and people with disabilities

We give priority to local people from South Melbourne and Port Melbourne

Youth Housing Support Programs

This program is for young people, aged between 15-25 years old, who are homeless or insecurely housed.

Through the Youth Housing Support Program, we assist you to:

•Obtain secure housing

•Develop your independent living skills

•Link you to employment, education or training programs

•Assist with solving any problems with Centrelink benefits, or income

•Discuss and help you to manage any other issues you may be dealing with

•Refer you to other specific services within the community that you may need.

To be eligible to become a resident on the Youth Housing Program you must be:

•15-25 years old

•Single or a single parent

•Homeless or insecurely housed

•Be receiving a low income

•Have some links to the City of Port Phillip and surrounding areas

We are a part of the Southern Opening Doors model, and receive referrals from Access Points such as:
